My book, called ‘All About Me’ is an in-depth guide for parents and professionals who are contemplating telling autistic children and young people about their autism in the absence of specialist support. The bespoke programme it describes was originally inspired by the work of earlier authors and was developed over more than 10 years through my direct experiences of teaching more than 250 individual children and young people (aged between 6 and 18) about their autism diagnosis.
The book and its accompanying downloadable teaching materials are intended to help parents and professionals weigh up the pros and cons of telling autistic children about their diagnosis and put them in a position where they feel more able to plan and do this work positively and safely themselves.
I currently offer training SENCos and relevant professionals working for local authority SEND services on how to use the book with children and young people in the South East of England and North Yorkshire through All About Me study days. Direct support in working through the programme with their autistic child is also available to individual families. Please email hello@andrewmillerautism.com for more information.
